After a holiday season of eating, drinking, and being merry (often in excess), Are you ready to get healthy in the new year?
Committing to any new lifestyle transformation — getting fit, eating right, or losing weight — isn’t always easy, but I can tell you that it’s worth it!
Watch this video to get the quick tips!
Setting a New Year’s resolution to get healthy and fit is a powerful first step in the right direction. However it’s just that – a first step!
I learned this very lesson in 2009 when I set a New Years resolution to take control of my health.
I had made this very same resolution year after year but in 2009 it stuck. I lost 40 lbs. and changed my life FOREVER!
So maybe you are wondering what was different in 2009? Setting a goal and achieving a goal are two different things! I know this firsthand.
Here are my 4 simple tips that will help you stick to your resolution and make 2016 your healthiest year yet!
1. Write it down and commit!
A goal that is not in writing is just a dream. The first step to achieving anything is committing to it and writing it down!
2. Find a method that fits into your life.
Over and over we hear “don’t do this” and “don’t eat that” but I don’t believe these methods of deprivation are permanent solutions for weight loss or getting healthy. In order to turn your resolution into a lifestyle change, you have to create healthy habits that you can live with and integrate into your lifestyle!
3. Get support and accountability.
In my years of being a fitness expert I have seen all the programs and heard all the questions. I have found that having a professional to be accountable to makes the biggest difference in your results! Those who have accountability from a professional and group support lose more weight than those who try to go at it alone. Go ahead and make a commitment to improve your lifestyle with someone else, a close friend, your significant other, or your children.
4. Go on the record!
Having friends and family on board is such a huge motivator. Make your resolution last longer by sharing it with others. Making your resolution public makes it harder to abandon. Research has shown that people who have support are the most successful at diet and exercise programs. Tell a few friends. Go to my Facebook page and let me know your New Years Resolution.
